Jungle Retreat Near Balangan Beach, Uluwatu
Tucked into the green folds of the Bukit Peninsula, this jungle retreat offers something increasingly rare on the island: real quiet, real privacy, and real proximity to one of Bali's most beloved coastal corners. Just a short ride from Balangan Beach and minutes from the surf breaks, temples, and cliffside cafes that make Uluwatu famous, this villa gives you the best of both worlds. Deep jungle calm by day, easy beach access whenever the mood strikes.
The Space
At the heart of the villa is a queen bed set in a room designed for rest. Soft natural light filters through the surrounding foliage, and the air carries that particular Uluwatu mix of salt and green growth that tells you you're somewhere special. Step outside and you're on your own private patio, wrapped in jungle view on every side. No shared walls, no neighbors peering in, just you, the trees, and the sound of birds and cicadas doing their thing.
This patio isn't just a pretty spot for coffee (though it's great for that too). It's built for movement. Roll out one of the included yoga mats and get your morning practice in as the light comes through the canopy. Use the blocks to deepen a stretch you've been chasing for months. Lay down on the acupressure mat and let your nervous system settle after a day in the water. The space is yours to use however your body needs that day, whether that's a full workout, a slow stretch, or twenty minutes of doing absolutely nothing at all.
Inside, we've put together a proper wellness kit because we believe a good retreat should support your whole system, not just give you a nice bed to sleep in. Salt lamps offer that warm, ambient glow in the evenings, the kind of light that makes it easier to wind down without reaching for a screen. A selection of oils sits ready for whenever you want to turn a simple stretch into something closer to a ritual. Everything is here so you don't have to pack it, plan it, or hunt it down once you land. You just walk in and start.
For those who still need to stay connected, whether it's for remote work, a call back home, or just keeping up with the group chat, the villa comes with high speed wifi and a proper workspace. This isn't an afterthought bolted onto a beach shack. It's a real setup, fast enough to handle video calls, uploads, and whatever else your day requires, so you can work a few focused hours in the morning and be in the ocean by early afternoon.
Getting To Balangan and the Surf
One of the biggest draws of this location is how close it sits to Balangan Beach, one of the last stretches of the Bukit that still feels a little undiscovered compared to its more crowded neighbors. Balangan has a wide golden sand beach backed by dramatic limestone cliffs, dotted with simple beach warungs serving grilled fish, cold Bintangs, and fresh coconuts right at the water's edge. It's the kind of beach where you can still find a quiet patch of sand even in high season, and where the sunset show over the water rivals anywhere else on the island.
For surfers, Balangan is a genuine draw in its own right. The reef break here works best from around mid to low tide and delivers long, peeling lefts that are a favorite among both intermediate surfers looking to progress and more experienced wave riders who want a fun, less crowded alternative to the bigger name breaks nearby. On a good swell, Balangan turns on one of the more playful, rippable waves on the Bukit, and the paddle out is short and manageable, which makes it a great base for a surf focused stay.
But Balangan is really just the beginning. This villa sits within easy reach of the wider Uluwatu surf circuit, arguably the most famous string of waves in all of Indonesia. Uluwatu itself, the legendary left hander that put this entire peninsula on the map for surfers worldwide, is a short drive away. It's a wave with multiple sections, from the more forgiving inside reef for those building confidence, to the powerful, hollow outside peak that has drawn pro surfers for decades. Watching it from the cliffside warungs above, even if you're not paddling out that day, is worth the trip alone.
A little further along you'll find Padang Padang, a short but punchy left that barrels hard on its day and has become an iconic stop on the world surf tour. Bingin sits close by too, another postcard perfect left hander framed by cliffside bungalows and turquoise water, known for its playful, rippable walls that suit longboards and shortboards alike. Between Balangan, Uluwatu, Padang Padang, and Bingin, surfers staying at this villa have access to one of the most complete and varied wave zones in the world, all within a short scooter or car ride from your front door.
Even if surfing isn't your main focus, the ocean here is simply beautiful to be around. Snorkeling, swimming, or just floating in the warm water after a hot day exploring the Bukit is reason enough to make the short trip down to the coast.
What Else Uluwatu Has to Offer
Uluwatu has grown into one of Bali's most compelling destinations precisely because it manages to hold onto its raw, wild character while also offering an increasingly excellent food and culture scene. A short drive from the villa takes you to Uluwatu Temple itself, an ancient sea temple perched dramatically on a clifftop, where the ocean crashes against the rock far below. Come for sunset, when the sky turns gold and pink over the water, and if you time it right, catch a traditional Kecak fire dance performed against that same cliffside backdrop, one of the most memorable cultural experiences on the island.
The area's food scene has exploded in recent years, and you're perfectly positioned to take advantage of it. Cliffside cafes serving proper specialty coffee, fresh smoothie bowls, and internationally inspired menus now sit alongside classic warungs dishing up nasi goreng and mie goreng for a fraction of the price. Whether you want a slow breakfast overlooking the ocean or a quick, cheap, and delicious local lunch between surf sessions, Uluwatu delivers on both ends of the spectrum.
Beyond the temple and the beaches, the Bukit Peninsula rewards those who like to explore. Scooter rides along the coastal roads reveal hidden viewpoints, quiet beaches most tourists never find, and small local communities going about daily life largely unchanged by the growth happening around them. Green Bowl Beach, Nyang Nyang, and Suluban are all within striking distance and each offers its own distinct character, from secluded coves reached by long stairways carved into cliff rock, to dramatic sea caves that open onto the water.
For those interested in wellness beyond the villa's own kit, the wider Uluwatu and Bingin area has become something of a hub for yoga studios, ice bath sessions, and holistic health offerings, meaning you can easily extend your practice beyond the patio if you want to join a class or try something new during your stay.
A Word on the Roads
We want to be upfront about the access road, because we believe in honest expectations. The road leading to the villa has been fully repaired and is smooth and easy to navigate now that we're in the dry season. Like most rural parts of Bali, there can occasionally be light construction happening nearby, this is simply part of life on an island that's growing and improving its infrastructure, though nothing is currently active. You may also notice the roads getting a little rough in patches given the more rural setting, but nothing that affects your ability to get in and out of the villa comfortably. If you're used to typical Bali roads, this will feel completely familiar, and if this is your first time on the island, know that it's all part of the charm of staying somewhere a little more tucked away from the main tourist strip.
Who This Villa Is For
This retreat is built for people who want more than just a bed to sleep in. It's for the surfer who wants quick access to Balangan, Uluwatu, Padang Padang, and Bingin without sacrificing peace and quiet at the end of the day. It's for the remote worker who needs real wifi and a real desk but also wants to start each morning with yoga on a private jungle patio. It's for the couple looking for a romantic, secluded queen bed retreat with genuine natural beauty just outside the door. And it's for anyone who wants to experience the wild, dramatic, wave rich side of Bali that made Uluwatu famous in the first place, while still coming home each night to total privacy and calm.
Jungle in the morning, ocean in the afternoon, and a private patio to bring it all together at sunset. That's the rhythm this villa is designed around, and it's one that's hard to find anywhere else on the Bukit.
Just a quick note about the villa. Since we're so close to the ocean, the salt air can sometimes cause wear on outdoor fixtures like the sink or shower, things like light rust or corrosion over time. We do our best to keep everything well maintained and repaired regularly, but living by the beach means the salt water and air can affect both outdoor and indoor elements of the villa. Thanks for understanding, and please let us know if you notice anything that needs attention during your stay.

“Public review: Rangga was fantastic overall and I really enjoyed my stay. The space was beautiful, comfortable and well located, and Rangga was responsive and helpful throughout. There were a few teething issues with some of the amenities during my stay, as well as some noise between the rooms due to the soundproofing. That said, Rangga was very receptive to the feedback and did his best to assist where he could. Overall, I had a positive experience and would happily recommend the stay, particularly once those small issues are ironed out.”
“Public review: J’ai trouvé l’emplacement parfait.
“Public review: helpful host. very accomodating and nice ambience👍”
“Public review: Beautiful place in a quiet area. Away from the noise of Bali but still a few shops and restaurants nearby. The place is lovely and clean. Comfy bed. Big TV. The terrace is great as it gets sun all day - a great location to sunbathe on comfy loungers. The host is very helpful and quick to respond. Place even comes with a water cooler. Private feedback: Thankyou for the stay. I had a lovely time !”
